Summer on pavements can be very difficult for dogs. Every responsible owner is aware of the dangers of leaving dogs in a car unattended, but how much thought is given to the effect of the the sun on the road surface? Tarmac absorbs the heat from the sun very easily and soon warms up. Just try pressing the back of your hand on the road to experience what your dog will be feeling with every step. These are frightening figures. Whilst it’s obvious that temperatures in the 80′s are obviously too hot to exercise your dog comfortably, in the 70′s it wouldn’t necessarily be the case. Even in the evening the tarmac will retain a lot of heat, so it’s worth bearing in mind during the hot and sunny days. Morning exercise will probably be wiser.
