Hot Cars, Dead Dogs
At 100F dogs cannot regulate their heat and internal organs are starting to be damaged – anything over and the risk of fatal heatsroke to your dog is acute. Leaving your dog in this kind of temperature for just minutes will cause them enormous distress and risk death. Leaving a window open and a bowl of water won’t make any difference, neither of these will cool your dog.
If you are travelling with your dog this holiday time, do ensure that there are no circumstances where you will have to leave him in the car. If you are planning a day where your dog isn’t welcomed then make alternative plans - leaving him alone in a caravan is no better than leaving him in a car. Caravans are, just like cars, metal boxes that heat up dangerously.
Please don’t risk your dog’s well-being by leaving him in a car in hot weather for even a few minutes – and remember that you can be prosecuted if you cause your dog any suffering.
