Smoothies for Dogs
When it’s hot dogs, just like us, enjoy a cold treat and this one is irresistible – certainly good enough for all the family. Vary the quantity of the ingredients as much as you like.
I’ve based this frozen smoothie on bananas because my dogs love them, added strawberries because my dogs love them – you get the picture, make it with whatever your dog enjoys as a treat. If you’ve never given him bananas or strawberries, try and see what he thinks. You may be surprised!
This is really quick to make, it’s just a question of assembling the ingredients and giving them a quick whizz. The measurements work for US and Imperial.
Frozen Banana Smoothie Ingredients
- 500ml/1pint thick Greek yogurt
- 2 bananas, sliced
- 4oz/100g strawberries, halved
- 1tbs honey
- 3tbs (heaped) crunchy peanut butter
Blend it altogether in a processor or blender then pour the mixture into moulds or a Kong. If using a Kong plug the hole at the end with a slice of banana or strawberry.
Small ramekins are good – line with clingfilm to make removing the frozen smoothies easier, or an ice tray or ice cube bags if you have them. Small smoothies only work if your dog is a delicate eater, otherwise they will be gone in one munch and you will have a very surprised dog looking at you, wondering what that strange sensation of frozen was! Easier to make them larger and take them out to the garden.
If you give them indoors they will slide all over the floor and your dog probably won’t want to steady them with his paws because they’re so cold. If you are using a Kong that problem is solved.
They definitely pass the taste test in this house, but then almost anything does with Betty and Molly!
Do give it a try, they couldn’t be easier to make and they are really cooling in hot weather – your dog will thank you.
